Pioneer Tasks

Pray

Nothing good in the Christian life is accomplished without prayer. The most important task the Pioneer has this summer is to become a man or a woman of prayer. Dependence on God instead of self is a lesson that must be learned. Only through prayer is the Pioneer able to access the power, wisdom, and strength that he will need to see God use him this summer.

Work

The ministry is not for lazy Christians. Hard work well done is rewarding in itself. The work of the Pioneer should involve every aspect of the reality of ministry. From cleaning and manual labor to visitation, hard work is expected of every student. Each task assigned should be fulfilled for the glory of Jesus Christ. There are no unimportant tasks for the Pioneer this summer.

Learn

As a student, the Pioneer is to always have a teachable spirit. As a pastor, you possess things that would be helpful for the Pioneer to learn. "How to" things vary from pastor to pastor and are largely a matter of personal taste, but the reasons or philosophy of why you do what you do would be very helpful in transferring your burden to the Pioneer. We hope that you will take the time to train the Pioneers in the things that you believe most important to ministry.

Teach

Understandably, a young college student is not the first person that would be chosen to teach the members of your church. The Pioneers do have, however, some things that they are able to teach other Christians that are eager to learn. The theme that is emphasized to them from the beginning is that they should be "able to teach others also." II Timothy 2:2. They will be thoroughly trained in organizing and conducting children's bible clubs, teen rallies, door-to-door evangelism, and many other areas described elsewhere on the pastor's page. Their zeal for the ministry and loyalty to you as the pastor will be helpful traits that would be good to influence the members of your church that are ready to become more tangibly involved in your church.\

Multiply

God's plan for the believer is multiplication. Evangelism and discipleship are vital in accomplishing reproduction. Multiplication implies not only seeing people come to know Christ as Savior but also teaching others how to do what you are doing. For this reason, we highly recommend that the Pioneer team never conducts a Bible club by themselves, never goes door-to-door by themselves, or completes any other assignment without a willing and teachable church member with them being trained how to do what the Pioneer does. After the Pioneer leaves, if he has done his job, there should be more of your church members that have a desire to go door-to- door. More families in the church should know how to conduct a Bible club in their backyard to reach their neighbor's children, and more members of your church should be willing to assist you to do what is needed no matter the task... This is the true reason for the Pioneer program.

If you have a Pioneer team in your church for two weeks and they do not multiply, the time spent there has been a failure.
